Ratan Unleashes Scathing Critique on Left Front’s Betrayal of Farmers—A Call for Urgent Action!
Agartala, 17th February 2025 – Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath has openly criticized the previous left front government for its inaction regarding farmers’ income. Speaking at the inauguration of Tripura’s first FPO-2025 fair at the Purbasha premises, Minister Nath described the event as a vital move towards empowering farmers and enhancing the agricultural sector in the state.
Minister Nath highlighted the current government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to uplift women, youth, farmers, and underprivileged groups. He emphasized the central government’s efforts to foster a self-reliant Tripura through cross-community cooperation.
Nath lauded central government initiatives that support financial stability in agriculture, urging farmers to embrace self-reliance as key contributors to the nation’s food supply. He explained that Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are collective farmer-led units that focus on the management of agricultural production, processing, marketing, and business activities to improve financial outcomes for farmers. The central government has advocated for FPOs since launching a dedicated project in 2020, aiming to boost farmer organizations nationwide.
Currently, Tripura hosts 58 FPOs across its 58 blocks, involving 10,434 farmers. Minister Nath noted a significant rise in farmers’ monthly income—from Rs. 6,580 under the previous administration, to Rs. 13,590 today—attributing this growth to several initiatives, including the Krishak Samman Nidhi Scheme, support prices for paddy, subsidized seeds and fertilizers, provision of agricultural machinery, soil testing, crop insurance, and the development of Krishak Bandhu Kendras. He also acknowledged the critical role of increased agricultural budget allocations in facilitating these improvements.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Nath called for collective efforts to build a self-reliant and thriving Tripura and expressed his best wishes for the success of the three-day FPO fair.
