Heart-Wrenching Tragedy: Tanya’s Family Faces Unthinkable Loss of Bright UPSC Aspirant During College Drop-Off
Tanya Soni’s family was on their way from Mancherial, Telangana, to Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, to enroll her younger sister in a B.Tech course when tragedy struck. En route, they received the heartbreaking news of Tanya’s death. In shock, they disembarked in Nagpur and urgently flew to New Delhi on Saturday evening.
Tanya Soni, a 21-year-old civil service aspirant, was one of three victims who perished when torrential rains flooded the basement library of a coaching center in Old Rajender Nagar, Central Delhi. Tanya, who completed her Class 12 in Mancherial, had moved to Delhi to follow her dream of entering civil services. She was pursuing her undergraduate degree at Maharaja Agrasen College, Delhi University, and was taking coaching classes at Rau’s IAS Study Centre in Rajender Nagar.
Her father, Vijay Kumar, originally from Nabinagar in Bihar, serves as General Manager at Srirampur Coal Mines under Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. He, along with his wife and younger daughter, reached Delhi on Saturday night. After a postmortem examination at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the family transported Tanya’s body to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, for the final rites. Tanya’s younger brother, a class nine student in Hyderabad, was also flown to Varanasi by relatives.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Bhaskar mentioned that Telangana’s Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal, officials from Singareni Collieries Company Ltd in Delhi, and the Mancherial police have been in constant touch with the bereaved family, providing continuous support.
