Experience the Revolution: Kisan Mela 2025 in Basar Celebrates Tribal Agriculture from Tradition to Innovation!
Arunachal Pradesh’s Basar in the Leparada district recently played host to Kisan Mela 2025, a landmark event orchestrated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in Basar. Under the theme “From Tradition to Innovation: Tribal Agriculture,” the event was part of the 50th Foundation Day celebrations of the ICAR Arunachal Pradesh Centre, commemorating five decades of substantial contributions to the agricultural sector.
The event saw the presence of Nyabi Jini Dirchi, the local MLA of Basar Assembly Constituency, who attended as the Chief Guest, along with the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Leparada District as prominent guests. Various Heads of Departments, Heads of Offices, and government officials also graced the occasion with their presence.
A highlight of the Kisan Mela was the unveiling of two pivotal publications: “Agricultural Technologies to Transform Rural Livelihood in Arunachal Pradesh” and “Natural Farming: Scope and Prospects in Arunachal Pradesh.” These works promise to be invaluable assets for the farming community, providing insights into innovative agricultural practices and sustainable farming methodologies.
Nyabi Jini Dirchi lauded the ceremony’s initiatives, particularly appreciating the input distribution to farmers under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and the acknowledgment through the Farmers’ Award and Exhibition Award. Special accolades were reserved for HIRI SHG, HILI SHG, and GALU ANE PLF for their exceptional stall displays.
In his address, MLA Nyabi emphasized the integration of traditional farming know-how with contemporary innovations to bolster agricultural productivity. He urged farmers to embrace modern farming methods, particularly the cultivation of millets under the “One District One Crop” initiative, and encouraged collaboration with agricultural departments and experts to enhance productivity.
Expressing gratitude, MLA Nyabi praised the relentless efforts of the organizers and participants in making the Kisan Mela a resounding success, underlining its positive influence on farmers’ lives in Leparada District and a reinforced commitment to advancing tribal agriculture in Arunachal Pradesh.
