In a significant law enforcement operation, Dispur police, with a team from Bhagaduttapur Outpost, raided a scrapyard in Dakhingaon, Kahilipara on February 10, seizing a considerable amount of suspected stolen copper and silver electrical wires. The haul included 220 kg of electric copper wire, 4 kg of copper AC pipes, and 52 kg of silver electric wire. Md. Mannan Hussain, a 24-year-old resident of Mazgumi village in Kamrup district, was detained in connection with the case. Authorities are investigating the origins of the materials and any potential ties to theft networks, with further legal actions anticipated as the inquiry progresses.
In a separate crackdown, Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) confiscated heroin valued at approximately Rs 4 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Amingaon. The drug haul, originating from Mizoram and headed for Lower Assam, was intercepted by law enforcement officials who discovered 600 grams of heroin hidden in a truck with registration number NL 01 AE 1147. The operation, directed by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, uncovered 50 packets of the illicit substance, leading to the arrest of Amir Hussain Khan, a Barpeta resident.
Authorities suspect Khan’s involvement in an extensive drug trafficking network and are continuing their probe to identify other individuals implicated in the illegal trade. Police have assured the public that stringent legal action will be pursued against offenders involved in drug-related crimes.
