Shocking Legal Drama Unfolds: 5 YouTubers Face Charges for Promoting Obscenity in Guwahati!
Guwahati, India: FIR Filed Against YouTubers for Alleged Obscenity on Online Show
The Assam Police have filed an FIR against five prominent YouTubers—Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Makhija, and Jaspreet Singh—over allegations of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on the online show "India’s Got Latent." This action follows a complaint lodged by Alok Boruah, resulting in an investigation initiated by the Guwahati crime branch.
The charges encompass multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, including sections related to insulting a woman’s modesty, employing children for sexual exploitation, and distributing obscene materials. Additionally, the case includes violations under the Information Technology Act 2000, Cinematography Act 1952, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986.
The controversy has sparked significant backlash on social media, particularly on the platform ‘X,’ with users expressing outrage over the show’s content. Amid these reactions, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the FIR’s filing and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
In response to the rising criticism, Ranveer Allahbadia addressed his audience via a short video on social media, where he acknowledged the situation, took responsibility for his actions, and issued a formal apology. The incident highlights ongoing tensions around content boundaries on digital platforms and the responsibilities of content creators.
The unfolding situation continues to draw public attention, emphasizing the complexities of regulating online content and the importance of maintaining decency in public discourse.
