Urgent: NFHRCC Insists on Signed Contractor Agreements for Foothills Road – A Critical Stand for Accountability | MorungExpress
NFHRCC Demands Immediate Compliance from Contractors on Nagaland Foothills Road Project
Dimapur, February 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has issued a strong directive to contractors awarded work orders for the Nagaland Foothills Road Project, urging them to sign an implementation agreement with the committee and begin work immediately. The committee warned that non-compliance would necessitate the cancellation and reassignment of the contracts to firms that prioritize quality and transparency.
Despite repeated appeals and extensions, some contractors have not signed the agreement, with a new deadline extended to January 21, 2025. Notable defaulters include M/S Yanna Enterprises and M/S JK Constructions. The refusal of M/S JK Construction and M/S Chabou & Co. to submit their signed agreements by January 26th, despite collecting them, adds to the ongoing dispute.
Efforts to mediate, involving tribal organizations like Ao Senden and Lotha Hoho, have met resistance, as illustrated by Dr. John of JK Construction walking out of a crucial meeting. Tribal hohos have given Lotha Hoho five days to address the non-compliance.
On February 7, 2025, the Minister of PWD (R&B) met with 12 apex tribal hohos to deliberate on the agreement, confirming its validity. Further engagements with NFHRCC are expected. The Foothills Road, dubbed a "people’s project," saw landowners foregoing compensation and no taxes from Naga Political Groups.
NFHRCC emphasizes beginning work promptly due to time constraints and ensuring adherence to project standards. Failure to comply may lead to reassigning contracts, reinforcing the committee’s role in ensuring seamless execution, maintaining quality, and promoting transparency in construction.
Engaged in the SASCI scheme, the project reflects collaborative efforts between NFHRCC and Nagaland’s leadership, highlighting the urgent need for cooperation among all parties involved.
