Join Guwahati’s Vibrant Eat Right Mela 2025: Embrace the Joy of Healthy and Safe Eating!
The Kamrup Metropolitan District Food Safety Administration, alongside the district administration, is set to host an Eat Right Mela on February 10-11, 2025, at Ranghar Bakori, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. This two-day event aims to raise public awareness about making safe, nutritious, and enriched food choices while showcasing government-led nutritional initiatives.
A broad spectrum of attendees, including government officials, students, women, and members of civil society organizations, alongside the general public, are expected to participate. Numerous departments, such as the Social Welfare Department, Agriculture Department, and Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, will feature stalls intended to disseminate information about nutrition-related schemes and benefits.
Underpinning this event is the Eat Right India Movement, initiated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Launched on World Food Day, October 16, 2018, the movement tackles issues such as malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and overnutrition. It underscores three core themes: Eat Safe, Eat Healthy, and Eat Fortified Foods. The initiative is directed at both consumers and food businesses, urging the reduction of unhealthy ingredients like salt, sugar, and trans fats while promoting better food practices.
The Eat Right Mela will be packed with engaging activities, including poster competitions, quizzes, street plays, panel discussions, workshops, cultural performances, and film screenings, designed to captivate and educate attendees. This district-level initiative is part of a broader National Mela concept, which seeks to motivate citizens to embrace healthier lifestyle choices through interactive and informative experiences.
With its comprehensive agenda, the Eat Right Mela is poised to be an instrumental platform in advancing the goals of the Eat Right India Movement, fostering a collective move towards healthier, safer food consumption for all.
