Amit Shah Empowers Change: Transformative Review Meeting on New Criminal Laws in Gujarat
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, led a crucial review meeting in New Delhi today, focusing on the enforcement of three newly established criminal laws in Gujarat. Joined by Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, the session assessed the progress and current status of new regulations impacting police operations, jails, courts, prosecution procedures, and forensic activities within the state.
Amit Shah underscored the cornerstone of these new criminal statutes: ensuring justice is served within three years of filing an FIR. He urged the Gujarat government to implement the laws across all commissionerates by April 30, 2025, advocating for statewide enforcement promptly. To maintain momentum and oversight, he proposed a rigorous review schedule: monthly by the Chief Minister, fortnightly by the State Home Minister, and weekly by the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), and the Director General of Police.
In addition to these recommendations, Shah emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between the state’s Home and Health Departments. This partnership aims to ensure the electronic delivery of post-mortem and medical reports from hospitals, streamlining the process and boosting efficiency. Shah also charged the state’s DGP with the task of continuously monitoring the progress of these cases.
Moreover, Shah highlighted the importance of improving technological infrastructure, calling for an upgrade in network connectivity speeds in police stations to 30 mbps, surpassing current standards. This enhancement is pivotal for efficient law enforcement work and seamless case management.
