Breaking: SKM Legislators’ Pivotal Decision – Implementing Empowering Temporary Work Permits
On January 28, 2025, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) held its 4th legislators’ meeting at Samman Bhavan in Gangtok, chaired by Chief Minister and party president P.S. Golay. Key decisions were taken during this assembly, as outlined in an official SKM release. Among the priorities was implementing a temporary work permit system across all Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) in the state. This initiative aims to monitor and regulate the influx of external manpower, protecting local interests and managing workforce deployment more effectively.
The Chief Minister also addressed the rampant issue of illegal subletting of trade licenses, highlighting the government’s dedication to curbing such practices. Instead, the focus will shift towards developing local skills and optimizing local manpower to ensure employment opportunities benefit Sikkim residents.
Cleanliness and hygiene across Sikkim were another focal point discussed, with Golay urging officials and departments to maintain high standards in public spaces and government offices. This effort is part of the broader developmental vision for the state.
The meeting further explored the establishment of a State Planning & Development Board, alongside constituency-level boards, to oversee financial planning and developmental activities. These boards will consist of nine members each to coordinate planning at the grassroots level.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced his upcoming participation in a pilgrimage to the Mahakumbh on February 7, leading a delegation of legislators. This trip follows an invitation from Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Other significant issues discussed included Limboo-Tamang seat reservation, the visit of HH Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorjee to Sikkim, and the upcoming delimitation exercise.
The meeting concluded with members reaffirming their commitment to Sikkim’s progress under Golay’s leadership. The Chief Minister emphasized strengthening the party’s organizational structure and urged MLAs to diligently work towards bringing government initiatives to every corner of the state, fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
