Barkha Madan, a contestant in the 1994 Femina Miss India pageant, alongside icons like Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai, stepped into the limelight with her debut in the 1996 film “Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi.” Starring as Jane, alongside Akshay Kumar and Rekha, she left a mark with her impactful performance. Her talent shone brightly when she appeared as the ghost in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Bhoot,” which turned into a major hit, bringing her recognition and household fame.
Despite her commendable performances, Barkha’s film career began to wane post-“Bhoot.” She ventured into Punjabi cinema but struggled to establish a foothold. In pursuit of promoting independent filmmakers, she initiated a production company, Golden Gate LLC. Barkha also explored television, participating in about 20 shows, but none resonated significantly with the audience.
Eventually, embracing a path less traveled, Barkha sought spirituality. In 2012, she chose to become a Buddhist nun, guided by the teachings of Buddhism and inspired by the Dalai Lama. She embraced a new identity, Ven Gyalten Samten, after her ordination at Sera Je Monastery on November 4, 2012.
Despite her retreat from the cinematic world, Barkha Madan remains a poignant reminder of the transitioning journeys actors often undertake, highlighting the unpredictable yet enthralling nature of the entertainment industry.
