Villagers Unearth Ancient Lord Brahma Sculpture in Tripura
In a significant archaeological discovery, villagers in the Bhuiyapara area of Kailashahar Sub-division, Unakoti District, Tripura, have uncovered an ancient sculpture of Lord Brahma. The artifact was found during development work, prompting excitement and drawing a large crowd eager to witness the relic firsthand.
Kailashahar Sub-divisional Magistrate Pradip Sarkar confirmed the find, noting the idol was uncovered on a Tuesday as workers engaged in ground development tasks. The discovery quickly spread on social media, enhancing public interest.
Upon learning of the find, several officials, including ASI Assistant Conservator Abhishek Kumar, Gournagar BDO Pranoy Das, and Secretary of Deorcherra ADC Village Umesh Nama, visited the site. In line with departmental protocols, the sculpture was transferred to the Unakoti District Magistrate’s office for safeguarding, while the site remains a focal point for local visitors.
Abhishek Kumar contacted senior Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials to discuss preservation strategies for the sculpture. In his formal communication, BDO Pranoy Das emphasized the cultural and historical significance of the artifact, which was discovered during Pala siding work in the Deorcherra ADC Village at approximately 12:05 PM on January 21. The authorities have undertaken measures to preserve and document the idol carefully.
The sculpture’s discovery underscores Tripura’s rich archaeological heritage, prompting plans for further investigations and conservation efforts. With the involvement of relevant ASI departments, officials aim to ensure the artifact is preserved for educational and cultural appreciation.
