The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has expanded its line-up for the 2025 Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections by announcing two additional candidates. The announcements were made on January 21, with Tailin Lyngkhoi being selected to contest from Pariong Mawthadraishan for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jesperson Bamon from Sutnga Narwan for the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). This move brings the total number of candidates fielded by the Congress for both councils to 47.
This latest announcement follows a previous one made by the party on January 14, when three candidates were introduced. According to MPCC General Secretary Wansuk Syiem, the earlier candidates were Pynbiangmi Laloo from Mowkaiaw constituency, Brosent Siangshai from Musniang-Rangad constituency, and Bashan Tangliang from Sumer constituency.
The upcoming elections for both the KHADC and JHADC are scheduled for February 21, 2025, following approval from Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar. These elections are expected to be closely watched as various parties vie for influence in the region’s autonomous councils. The Congress has been actively preparing and strategically positioning its candidates to secure a strong representation in these pivotal polls.
