Noklak Celebrates Hok-Ah Festival, Emphasizes Peace, Unity, and Progress
Noklak, January 17 — The scenic Langnok village in the Noklak District marked its annual Hok-Ah festival with significant fervor as Minister of Housing and Mechanical Engineering, P Bashangmongba Chang, delivered a message of unity and progression. Chang extolled the Nokhu Range Public Organization (NRPO) for their dedication to peace and cohesion and urged them to exemplify these virtues for the Eastern Nagas and beyond. He raised concerns about corruption’s detrimental effects on the region, advocating for NRPO’s leadership in setting high community standards.
Acknowledging the patient nature of the Khiamniungan tribe, Minister Chang encouraged collaborations not only among politicians but also with district administration. In light of limited government job opportunities, he emphasized self-reliance and skill development, pinpointing the area’s commendable craftsmanship and urging enhancement and refinement of skills.
The festival saw Khiamniungan Students’ Union President, Shangchiu, expressing that the harvest symbolizes advancement in all life facets and emphasized the festival’s spirit of thanksgiving. Former NRSU President, Talamong, called for embracing Hok-Ah blessings through continued peace and unity, inspiring leadership to influence younger generations positively.
EAC Nokhu HQ, Menlom Phom, highlighted the celebration as a testament to hard work rather than mere festivity. He advocated learning from seasoned individuals, adopting necessary changes, and sustainably managing natural resources for the district’s development.
The event featured S Chongtin and Henkong as programme chairs, with an invocation by Pastor S Kholi of Choklangan Baptist Church, a welcome address from VCC Pengchang of Langnok, a special performance by Choklangan Public Organization (Folk Fusion), and benediction by Pastor Tanghiu of Aniangan Baptist Church, culminating in a day celebrating community, heritage, and forward-thinking ideals.
