Manipur Triumph: Security Forces Courageously Eradicate Vast 4.8-Acre Poppy Plantation in Churachandpur
In a determined initiative to combat illegal poppy cultivation and enhance regional security, a coordinated operation was executed on January 15, 2025, by Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate. The mission took place in the Haopi Mollen Hill range under the jurisdiction of Sangaikot Police Station in Churachandpur district, resulting in the destruction of approximately 4.8 acres of illicit poppy crops. Additionally, six poppy pods were confiscated at the scene. Authorities have filed an FIR and are actively working to identify and prosecute those behind the illicit cultivation.
In parallel, security forces intensified their efforts to maintain law and order through expansive search and area domination operations in sensitive hill and valley regions. During one such operation in Salam Patong village under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district, a significant cache of arms and equipment was uncovered. The items seized included a 9mm CMG magazine, four 36 HE hand grenades, 27 live rounds of ammunition, 117 empty 7.62×39 mm cartridge cases, a Helican antenna, five Ni-Cad batteries, three soft nose tear smoke shells, one chili tear smoke shell, an arming ring, a detonator, and multiple TYT TH-UVF80 radio sets and accessories.
These strategic operations form a part of ongoing measures aimed at countering illegal activities and fortifying security throughout Manipur. Authorities have underscored their commitment to increasing vigilance and enforcing stringent actions against those involved in unlawful practices. This proactive approach emphasizes the region’s dedication to promoting safety, stability, and adherence to the law, reflecting a determined stance against illegal cultivation and criminal activity.
