On January 14, Manipur Police successfully apprehended two active members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) [KCP (PWG)] during a targeted operation near Machang Bakery Shop in Uripok Mayai Leikai, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals, 51-year-old Khangembam Sanaton Singh, also known as Sanatomba or Loya, and 43-year-old Thokchom Tiken Singh, also known as Ibungo, are accused of engaging in extortion activities aimed at shops and showrooms throughout the Imphal area.
During the operation, police seized several items from the suspects, including four mobile handsets equipped with four SIM cards, a side bag, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, a four-wheeler vehicle, and cash totaling Rs 5,140. These arrests shed light on ongoing extortion efforts by banned groups in the region, representing a significant step forward in combating illegal activities and improving community safety.
The police operation exemplifies their persistent efforts to dismantle the influence and operations of banned organizations like the KCP (PWG) within Manipur. This apprehension not only highlights the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public security but also acts as a deterrent to similar criminal enterprises in the area.
