India’s Groundbreaking Achievement: Unveiling the World’s Most Powerful Hydrogen Train Engine
GUWAHATI: In a pioneering achievement, India has developed a hydrogen-powered train engine boasting the world’s highest horsepower at 1,200, significantly outpacing similar engines from four other countries that generate between 500-600 horsepower. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed this groundbreaking advancement, emphasizing its potential to transform railway technology.
The hydrogen-powered engine is set for its inaugural trial run on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana. With the manufacturing process completed, the focus is now on system integration. This development marks a significant step towards broader adoption of hydrogen technology, which could extend to vehicles such as trucks and tugboats.
Despite this promising leap, Vaishnaw acknowledged the necessity for India to domestically produce more components of the value chain to secure comprehensive technological independence. This initiative not only sets a precedent in clean energy but also places India at the forefront of railway innovation.
