Shocking Twist: Chota Rajan Moves to AIIMS – Unraveling the Tragic Love Story of Bada Rajan’s Untimely Death
Chhota Rajan, a notorious Mumbai-based gangster, was recently shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) due to deteriorating health stemming from sinus issues. Continually monitored by a team of senior doctors, the former aide of Don Dawood Ibrahim is serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail for the 2011 murder of journalist J Dey. His transfer to AIIMS was aligned with the Delhi Jail Manual, which permits emergency medical care under the jail superintendent’s permission. Notably, in October 2024, Rajan was granted bail following the suspension of his life sentence for the 2001 murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty.
In contrast to Chhota Rajan’s ongoing legal woes, the shadow of Bada Rajan, or Rajan Mahadevan Nair, looms large in Mumbai’s underworld chronicles. Originally from Kerala, Bada Rajan transitioned from a humble tailor earning Rs 25-Rs 30 monthly to a feared don ruling Mumbai’s eastern suburbs like Ghatkopar and Chembur. His initial brush with law stemmed from stealing a typewriter to fund a birthday celebration for his girlfriend, landing him a three-year jail term.
After his release, Bada Rajan spearheaded the “Golden Gang,” later renamed the “Bada Rajan Gang.” His collaboration with Dawood Ibrahim, following Varadarajan Mudaliar’s departure from Mumbai, helped consolidate Dawood’s power base, challenging old titans like Karim Lala and Haji Mastan. However, betrayal brewed within; Abdul Kunju, a gang recruit, incited animosity by marrying Rajan’s long-term girlfriend. This rivalry culminated in 1983 when Bada Rajan was assassinated by the Pathan gang outside a court, a plan orchestrated with Kunju’s aid, marking a violent end to his tumultuous reign.
