Empowering Tribal Areas: PM Modi’s Transformative Janman Yojana Honors Equal Rights and Ends Decades of Neglect
Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined the government’s vision to transform rural India into dynamic hubs of growth and opportunity during his address at the inauguration of the six-day Grameen Bharat Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Since 2014, the administration has prioritized serving rural communities, aiming to provide a dignified life for villagers by ensuring access to basic amenities through targeted initiatives.
A key highlight of Modi’s speech was the implementation of the PM Janman Yojana, a campaign focused on the development of tribal areas to ensure equal rights for historically underserved regions. Over the past decade, the government claims to have corrected numerous oversights of previous administrations, advancing its mission of national development through rural empowerment. Modi credited these efforts with lifting 25 crore people out of poverty, predominantly from rural areas, and referenced a State Bank of India study noting a decline in rural poverty from about 26 percent in 2012 to an anticipated less than 5 percent in 2024.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman added that multiple schemes are being enacted for the welfare and economic advancement of the poor, farmers, youth, and women. At the Mahotsav, products crafted by tribal and North Eastern artisans, who have received collateral-free bank loans, are on display, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity through performances and exhibitions.
The Grameen Bharat Mahotsav aims to empower rural women by encouraging entrepreneurship and bringing together government officials, rural entrepreneurs, artisans, and diverse sector stakeholders to create a collaborative roadmap for rural transformation. The event prioritizes economic stability and financial security for rural populations, with a special focus on North-East India, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive development across the nation.
