Empowering Kokrajhar: Transformative District-Level Training on Incident Response System Enhances Disaster Preparedness
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) recently concluded a district-level training initiative focusing on the Incident Response System (IRS) at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College in Kokrajhar. This two-day program was designed to bolster disaster preparedness and improve interdepartmental coordination within the district.
The training concluded with a practical Field Simulation Drill at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, providing participants with invaluable hands-on experience in managing disaster scenarios. In addition, a comprehensive Tabletop Exercise (TTEx) was carried out, honing in on disaster management protocols with a particular emphasis on earthquake preparedness. Facilitators meticulously guided the attendees through essential procedures and strategies to minimize stress and ensure effective emergency responses.
Dr. Kripal Jyoti Mazumder, a Program Officer specializing in Disaster Management from ASDMA in Guwahati, played a pivotal role as the primary resource person. He underscored the importance of the program in enhancing coordination among various departments and significantly boosting disaster resilience across the district.
Among the notable attendees were Additional Deputy Commissioners Kabita Deka and Jituraj Gogoi, along with officials from diverse departments such as Land Revenue & Disaster Management, Health & Family Welfare, Fire & Emergency Services, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Assam Police Radio Organisation (APRO). Their active participation highlighted the collaborative effort required to effectively manage disaster scenarios.
Dr. Mazumder further stated that similar IRS training programs are being systematically conducted across all districts of Assam. These initiatives aim to equip officials with the necessary skills and knowledge imperative for managing emergencies efficiently and mitigating associated risks. Through these ongoing efforts, ASDMA continues to strengthen the state’s readiness to handle unforeseen disaster situations, demonstrating a proactive approach to disaster management and interdepartmental cooperation.
