Shocking Exit: WIP-FM Philadelphia Hosts Leave After Dramatic Confrontation with Station Employee
Veteran Philadelphia sports radio personality Howard Eskin has ended his long tenure with Audacy’s “Sports Radio 94” WIP-FM, marking the end of an era. Known for his outspoken and often controversial style, Eskin announced his departure just before Christmas, signaling a career move after decades at the station. He first joined WIP-FM in 1986, launching the station’s successful sports talk format.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 20, Eskin expressed his gratitude for the listeners who supported him throughout his 38-year career. He hinted at future opportunities, promising fans they’d be the first to know about his next professional steps.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that his sudden exit was triggered by an incident on-air at a Chickie’s & Pete’s restaurant in South Philadelphia, where Eskin allegedly shouted at a station employee. This altercation purportedly led to his dismissal. Coinciding with his social media announcement was his denial of access to the Eagles training facility, reflecting his changed status with the team.
Eskin had previously faced controversy over the summer, with allegations of making unwanted advances towards a concession employee at Citizens Bank Park. Following the incident, he was temporarily banned from the park and absent from the station, although WIP-FM did not officially announce his suspension. His absence was initially explained as a vacation and a measure to avoid disruption to Glen Macnow’s retirement.
Despite these challenges, Eskin remains active on social media, frequently posting about the Eagles. He was recently seen attending a game against the Dallas Cowboys, albeit from the stands. Meanwhile, Devan Kaney has taken over as the new Eagles sideline reporter for WIP-FM, as reported by Inside Radio. Eskin’s departure closes a significant chapter in Philadelphia sports radio history, but fans eagerly anticipate what he will pursue next.
