Demand for Justice: CPI Urges Manipur CM’s Resignation as Apology Falls Short
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has called for the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, arguing that his apology for the state’s ethnic violence is inadequate. Highlighting a “complete collapse of governance,” the CPI criticized the state government’s management of the crisis, which has led to over 250 deaths and the displacement of thousands. The party asserted that the government’s failure to maintain law and order, protect citizens, and secure justice is evident.
The CPI believes that Singh’s apology is a tacit admission of the administration’s inability to resolve the issues plaguing Manipur. They further condemned the lack of genuine efforts to encourage reconciliation and dialogue between communities, resulting in persisting social rifts. Additionally, the party criticized the government for excluding other political parties from the resolution process, calling it an indication of the administration’s unwillingness to implement inclusive solutions.
The CPI insists that the Chief Minister’s resignation is crucial for restoring confidence in the government and fostering a new, people-centric approach to overcoming the crisis in Manipur.
