Thrilling Transformation: L-G’s Ambitious Survey for Spectacular Cable Car Crossing Over Yamuna
The Yamuna River in Delhi will soon have a new, eco-friendly mode of transportation—a cable car system. This initiative, led by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, involves the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) conducting a survey of the Yamuna floodplains to identify suitable sites for installing the ropeway. The DDA is expected to complete and submit this survey within a month.
The designated locations for the cable car installations will be within walking distance of existing metro stations along the riverbanks. Importantly, the DDA assures that there will be no encroachment or concretization of the floodplain, as the chosen sites will be areas with lesser current connectivity.
Once up and running, the cable cars will operate from morning until night and can accommodate about 50 passengers each. This project aims to offer residents and commuters a non-polluting alternative for crossing the river, potentially easing traffic congestion on surrounding roads. It is anticipated to provide additional, more direct travel routes for locals, thereby reducing the need for long detours.
Overall, this venture is part of a broader effort to enhance urban connectivity while promoting sustainable transit solutions. By selecting sites near metro stations, the project strategically seeks to integrate with existing public transport infrastructure, offering a seamless transit option for Delhi’s residents. This initiative promises to transform daily commutes across the Yamuna, aligning with environmental goals and urban development strategies.
