Stunning Arrest: 72 Afghan Nationals Captured for ‘Illegally’ Entering Chagai
Title: Pakistan Tightens Border Security: 72 Afghan Nationals Arrested in Chagai
In a significant security operation, Pakistan’s Levies forces apprehended 72 Afghan nationals in Chagai for illegal entry, as reported by Dawn. These individuals, lacking necessary travel documents, were deported back to Afghanistan at the Baracha border crossing. The arrest marks part of a larger initiative by Pakistan to enhance border security and prevent unauthorized crossings from Afghanistan.
A senior Levies officer highlighted that these efforts are part of Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering border security. In 2024, joint operations by Levies and Frontier Corps resulted in the arrest of 3,826 Afghans across Chagai district’s border areas. The detainees included 2,779 men, 338 women, and 290 children without legal documentation, who were subsequently sent back to Afghanistan following investigations.
To further regulate border crossings, Pakistan previously established a "one-document regime," mandating passports and valid visas for crossings at major points like Chaman. This initiative led to the opening of passport offices in Chaman and Qila Abdullah, facilitating document issuance to around 20,000 people at no cost.
Pakistan’s stringent border control measures demonstrate its dedication to maintaining law and order and combating illegal activities. This comprehensive approach underlines the country’s strategic efforts to oversee its international borders effectively, ensuring legal movements and addressing security concerns.
