Protest Erupts Over Unethical Transfers at Tripura Gramin Bank
Agartala, 25th July 2024: Members of the Tripura Gramin Bank Officers Union staged a significant protest outside the bank’s head office, decrying what they say are unethical transfer practices and a rigid stance from the bank’s management. The protest, aimed at drawing attention to these grievances, included the submission of a formal deputation to the Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank.
The demonstration attracted a broad coalition of support, notably from the Tripura Gramin Bank Retired Staff Association and the Tripura Gramin Bank Employees Association. Protesters claimed that the Punjab National Bank’s (PNB) manager has been executing these unethical transfers for some time, bypassing the established rules and regulations of the bank. Despite multiple deputations addressing this issue, the problem reportedly continues unabated.
One protester articulated their frustration, stating, “PNB’s manager has been transferring workers unethically for some time. These transfers are being made without adhering to the bank’s rules and regulations. Numerous deputations have been made regarding this issue, but the unethical transfers persist. Hence, all employees of Gramin Bank have united for today’s protest.”
The protest reflects a growing dissatisfaction among the bank’s employees, who are calling for an immediate cessation of arbitrary transfers and a reinstatement of transparent and fair administrative practices within the institution. The collective action by current and former bank staff underscores the pressing need for the bank’s management to address and resolve these contentious issues.
