Radio Kochi 90 FM Wins Prestigious Community Radio National Award
Radio Kochi 90 FM, the eminent community radio station in Ernakulam licensed to St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Kochi, has been honored with the 10th prestigious Community Radio National Award. Instituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the accolade was awarded in the ‘thematic category’ for the station’s significant program, “Nirangal: Spectrum of Vibrant Talents.” This impactful 15-episode series focuses on raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder.
Radio Kochi’s commitment to social causes marks a pioneering effort in Kerala, making it the first community radio station in the state to produce and broadcast an exclusive series on autism spectrum disorder. This recognition holds special significance as it coincides with St. Teresa’s College’s ongoing centenary celebrations, adding a remarkable note of achievement to the institution’s legacy.
Sr. Vinitha, the provincial superior, expressed pride in the recognition, highlighting its contribution to the college’s celebratory milestones. The series was brought to life by a dedicated team comprising Tania Lewis, Chandulal P.C., and Krishnakumar C.K. as producers, with Sr. Ashrita and Nikhil Abraham serving as coordinators.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, officially announced the awards, underscoring the exceptional contributions of community radio stations in addressing vital social issues through innovative programming.
Radio Kochi 90 FM’s recent accolade not only acknowledges the station’s excellence in thematic content but also reinforces its role as a significant platform for community engagement and awareness, further solidifying its reputation in the regional and national media landscape.
