Heartbreaking Tragedy: Devastating Road Accident in Gangtok Claims One Life, Injures Five
A tragic road accident in Tadong, Gangtok, claimed one life and injured five others in the early hours of December 29. The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 am when a Mahindra Bolero traveling from Ranipool to Gangtok lost control and collided with a parked truck. The deceased, identified as Purna Kumar Chhetri of the Sikkim Scouts, was seated on the driver’s side and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Five individuals, including four men and one woman, sustained injuries and were immediately taken to Central Referral Hospital in Manipal for medical treatment. Among the injured, one person is reported to be in critical condition.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the perilous nature of road travel, especially during early morning hours when visibility and alertness may be compromised. It underscores the importance of cautious driving and the dire need for implementing stricter road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
