Guwahati, Dec 26: Across Assam, Christmas was celebrated with vibrant enthusiasm, mirroring global festivities. Guwahati’s streets took on a festive charm, as people of all faiths visited churches throughout the city. Devout Christians attended morning masses at various cathedrals, exchanging greetings with family and friends. The air was filled with the joyful melodies of Christmas carols, with both individual artists and gospel bands captivating audiences with classics like “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night.” Churches in the city, including St Joseph’s Cathedral and Guwahati Baptist Church, opened the celebrations with prayers followed by refreshments and a community feast, drawing large congregations. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, extended his greetings to the people, marking the day as the start of New Year festivities. The holiday spirit was palpable among the younger demographic, who flocked to malls, restaurants, and public venues. Meanwhile, Angels’ English Higher Secondary School in Kumarpara held its Christmas celebration on December 24, emphasizing themes of love and joy through a program initiated by Rector Dipti Medhi.
