Outrage Unleashed: Rahul Gandhi Condemns Nitish Govt’s Brutal Lathi-Charge on BPSC Aspirants
New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government following a lathi-charge incident involving Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates protesting in Patna. The protestors were demanding the cancellation of the December 13 exams due to alleged paper leaks. Gandhi equated the government’s actions to cutting off "the thumbs of the youth," referencing his earlier comments in Parliament about systemic inadequacies affecting young Indians. He stated that resorting to force against students to cover up governmental failures is "shameful and reprehensible."
The protest began on December 18, with candidates seeking the complete annulment of the BPSC exam after it was initially annulled for only one center and rescheduled for January 4, 2025. Tensions escalated when protestors attempted to besiege the BPSC headquarters, leading to a forceful response by the police.
Patna Police have filed an FIR against the protesters as well as certain coaching institutes and social media accounts accused of inciting misinformation, including groups like BPSC Network and UPSC Civil Service Examination. Anu Kumari, the Sachiwalay SDPO, explained that the protestors’ attempt to surround the BPSC office on a critical Patna thoroughfare disrupted public order, necessitating police intervention.
The ongoing strife highlights the dissatisfaction among aspirants over the handling of the examination system and raises broader questions about governance and transparency in public service recruitment. As legal actions proceed against those allegedly spreading rumors, authorities urge the public to disregard misinformation circulating online.
