Exciting Milestone: Minister Kaushik Rai Enthusiastically Lays Foundation for Innovative 100-Bed District Hospital in Lakhipur

In a significant move to improve healthcare infrastructure in Assam’s Barak Valley, Minister Kaushik Rai, responsible for Food, Civil Supplies, Barak Valley Development, and Urban Development, has laid the foundation for a new 100-bed district hospital in Lakhipur. Marked by a traditional bhoomi puja ceremony, this initiative heralds a major transformation in regional healthcare services. The Assam government has allocated Rs 107.44 crore to construct the state-of-the-art facility, set to be an eight-story building, with completion anticipated by August 29, 2026. This hospital aims to offer advanced medical services to the residents of both rural and urban areas within the Cachar district, with provisions made for residential quarters to accommodate doctors and nurses for continuous healthcare availability.

Minister Rai expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his visionary leadership and dedication to healthcare advancement. He emphasized that the hospital will significantly enhance healthcare access not only in Lakhipur but throughout the Cachar district. In addition to this project, the government plans to establish a GNM and ANM training school, construct a new jail at Labok, and build a bridge over the Barak River linking Singerband and Tulengram, all designed to support comprehensive regional development.

During the ceremony, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav and other officials stressed the hospital’s role in closing healthcare accessibility gaps, highlighting the Assam government’s commitment to community welfare and infrastructure development. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Assistant Commissioner Lakshyajeet Gogoi and Lakhipur Municipal Board Chairman Mrinal Kanti Das, who underscored the socio-economic benefits expected from the project. This ambitious endeavor signifies a new era of growth and progress for Barak Valley, aligning with aims to furnish modern infrastructure and essential services.
