Unite for Peace: BTC Chief Pramod Boro’s Emotional Appeal to End Violence and Embrace Humanity in Manipur

Pramod Boro, the Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council and president of the United People’s Party Liberal, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur, highlighting its dire impacts. Speaking on Wednesday, Boro emphasized the destructive outcomes of violence and called for collective efforts to prioritize humanity and peaceful resolutions over conflict.

“In this era, no one should resort to violence,” Boro urged, pointing out the mutual destruction violence brings. “When you aim to destroy others, you end up destroying yourself,” he said, stressing that conflict only perpetuates further issues and suffering for all involved.

Reflecting on historical lessons where former enemies have become allies, Boro called for those instigating violence in Manipur to consider the ramifications for future generations. He insisted on the importance of ending violence to prevent continued suffering for upcoming generations.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts to mediate between the warring Meitei and Kuki communities, Boro emphasized the critical need for mutual cooperation and compromise. He warned that without this willingness, external intervention might become necessary, as the government’s support alone is insufficient without community engagement.

Drawing insights from Bodoland’s own history of conflict in 1996 and 2012, Boro noted the lasting scars that continue to hinder progress in his region, reiterating that genuine commitment to community growth necessitates a rejection of violence.

Boro concluded with a fervent plea for peace in Manipur, advocating for a resolution to the violence by the end of 2024. He urged all parties to envision a future entering 2025 with renewed hopes and aspirations, leaving behind the devastation of violence. His appeal highlights the shared responsibility to build a better future for the children and the nation.
