In Shillong, Meghalaya, the birth of Jesus Christ was joyously celebrated through midnight services in churches on Christmas Eve. The festivities were led by Santa Clauses and “fairies,” who, along with coral groups from various churches, paraded through the streets, singing hymns to spread the “good message” of Christ’s advent as the “Prince of Peace.” Thousands participated in the special prayers and midnight masses at the beautifully lit churches, enjoying the city’s festive ambiance.
Shillong, known as Pine City, was festively adorned with real Christmas trees and decorations as it geared up for Christmas and the upcoming New Year celebrations. Both government and private buildings, along with street corners, were illuminated and decorated with Christmas trees and festive banners. Special programs, including traditional carols and colorful processions, filled the air with a blend of solemnity and celebration. Individual artists and gospel bands engaged the crowds with classic Christmas songs like “Jingle Bells” and “Oh Holy Night.”
