Breaking: Emotional Uproar as Ri Bhoi Administration Blocks Assam Hindu Body Protests in Byrnihat and Khanapara
The district administration of Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya has prohibited protests planned for December 24 by Assam-based Hindu group Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) in the areas of Byrnihat and Khanapara. The KSP had called for these protests following their demand to reopen Meghalaya’s Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu religious practices, having previously issued a 10-day ultimatum for compliance.
Concerned about maintaining peace and security during the Christmas period, Ri Bhoi authorities have preemptively banned any demonstrations by the KSP in these regions. This decision aims to avert potential unrest, particularly in light of ongoing tensions along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
In response to potential disruptions, Kamrup Metro police and district authorities in Assam have heightened vigilance to uphold peace along the border. Of notable concern is a proposed blockade reportedly initiated by the KSP, tied to the unresolved Mawjymbuin cave dispute, which risks destabilizing the critical transportation link between the two northeastern states.
Previously, on December 23, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) of Meghalaya urged the Chief Secretary of Assam to take immediate action in preventing a possible road blockade by right-wing Hindu factions on the crucial Meghalaya-Assam highway. This appeal underscores the region’s anxiety over maintaining unimpeded transportation and ensuring stability amid rising communal tensions.
The situation remains closely monitored by both state authorities as they work towards averting escalation and ensuring that communal harmony is preserved during this sensitive time.
