Breaking: Manipur Police Heroically Capture PREPAK Cadre in Kakching, Intensifying Hunt for Armed SUV Thieves
Manipur Police have successfully apprehended Khumbongmayum Abhijit Singh, an active member of the banned militant group PREPAK. Singh, aged 26, hails from Irengband Mairenbam Maning Leikai in Kakching District and was arrested in the Kakching Chumnang area. This detention is part of a larger investigation into a disturbing incident that occurred on October 1, 2024, when unidentified gunmen threatened a civilian and hijacked an SUV (Fortuner) in Imphal West District.
Investigations have traced the stolen SUV to Asem Kanan Singh, 50, and his associates, who are connected to the AT group. Singh resides in Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Imphal West District. Upon gathering intelligence, a joint team of security forces conducted a raid at Singh’s residence on December 22. Although the raid did not result in the capture of Singh or his accomplices, authorities seized several items from the premises. Among the confiscated items were a DVD machine for CCTV cameras, a four-wheeler (an i20 vehicle), three olive-green bags, a yellow life jacket labeled with SDRF, an air gun (Hurricane MOD-18), and two bulletproof jackets equipped with metal plates.
The authorities are currently continuing their investigation, striving not only to apprehend the remaining suspects but also to fully understand the scope and activities of the group involved. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to dismantle militant activities in the region and restore safety and order for the community. Further developments in this case are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
