Veteran Politician Warns of Rising Threats in West Bengal and Bangladesh
Kolkata, Dec 21: Veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has voiced grave concerns over the escalating political and law-and-order situation in West Bengal, which he believes is conducive to illegal immigration from Bangladesh and terrorist activities. Speaking on Saturday, Chowdhury highlighted the recent busting of fake passport rackets and the arrests of underground activists, suggesting these incidents are just "the tip of the iceberg."
Chowdhury warned that West Bengal’s current environment serves as a "safe haven" for fundamentalist forces, fearing that the situation could deteriorate further. He emphasized the need for vigilance as new threats may emerge in the near future.
In response, Kunal Ghosh of the ruling Trinamool Congress stated that the onus lies with the Union government to counter anti-India activities emanating from Bangladesh. Ghosh cited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s stance that international issues like those involving Bangladesh should be addressed by the central government. He criticized the Union government for inaction, arguing that Bangladesh is developing into a potential "long-term danger zone" for India.
Chowdhury also expressed concern over recent demolitions of Hindu temples in Bangladesh, suggesting that unchecked, fundamentalist forces could turn Bangladesh into another Afghanistan. He warned that anti-India nations such as Pakistan and China might exploit Bangladesh’s instability to create further challenges for India.
This situation calls for immediate attention from the Union government to prevent further regional instability, highlighting the need for swift and decisive action to safeguard national security.
