Stunning Victory: 38 Notorious Cybercriminals Convicted in Record Time—Justice Prevails!
In Mizoram, a significant crackdown on cybercrime has led to the conviction of 38 cybercriminals from 2021 to December 5, 2024. During this time, the Aizawl cybercrime police station has dealt with 296 cases, successfully resolving 10. Law enforcement has arrested 102 individuals, including seven juveniles, and has filed chargesheets in 88 cases with final reports submitted in 83 cases. Currently, 53 cases remain pending, with 32 under investigation due to interstate connections and 21 without such implications.
The courts are handling an additional 51 pending cybercrime cases. Financial crimes, notably bank fraud, are the most prevalent cyber offenses, accounting for 176 cases, followed by 56 instances of sexual harassment. Other reported cybercrimes include 31 cases of identity theft, 16 cases involving child pornography, nine cases of social media harassment, six copyright infringement cases, five instances of spreading false information, and a single hacking case.
Over Rs 15.31 lakh has been recovered from financial fraud cases, and more than Rs 81.79 lakh in cybercriminal accounts have been frozen. This concerted effort by Mizoram’s law enforcement highlights the growing challenge of cybercrime and their strides towards addressing it effectively.
