At a ceremony marking the 106th Establishment Day of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli underscored the importance of making all government levels—federal, provincial, and local—more people-centric and service-oriented. Oli highlighted that Lalitpur, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, has the potential to significantly boost tourism by preserving and promoting its culturally significant sites. The Prime Minister noted that local governments are becoming increasingly citizen-friendly, utilizing information technology to eliminate inefficiencies and ensure collaborative progress. He stressed that the journey of development is continuous.
Moreover, the government is actively working to improve the living standards of its citizens, while the nation’s foreign exchange reserves have seen an increase. In a proposal aimed at further enhancing the city’s cultural significance, Lalitpur’s Deputy Mayor suggested declaring the city as the capital of Handicrafts. During the event, Prime Minister Oli paid tribute to lecturers Shiva Gopal Risal and Narayan Maharjan for their heroic efforts in rescue operations during the Gorkha earthquake. This celebration not only honored past heroes but also set a vision for the future, focusing on cultural preservation, economic progress, and enhanced government service delivery.
