Former Bhutan Consul General Dasho Tshering Wangda Fatally Attacked by Elephant
Guwahati: In a tragic incident, Dasho Tshering Wangda, former Consul General of Bhutan, was killed by an elephant at his farmhouse in Sarpang, Bhutan, around 1:30 AM. The attack took place in Jubree, Samtenling, a region near the Assam border in India. Wangda was attempting to chase away the rogue elephant from his property when the attack occurred.
The 72-year-old diplomat, who played a pivotal role in fostering Bhutan-India relations, is survived by his wife, two sons, and three daughters. Wangda’s contributions were notable as the Vice President of the Bhutan-India Friendship Association, where he worked tirelessly to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations. He was particularly esteemed in Assam for his efforts in this regard.
During his tenure as Consul General in Kolkata, Wangda developed strong bonds with numerous retired Indian bureaucrats who had served in Assam. Aside from his diplomatic achievements, he was admired for his singing talent, particularly of Hindi film songs, and was respected for his warm and compassionate personality.
The sudden demise of Wangda has left a void in the diplomatic community, and he is remembered fondly by those who knew him for his dedication to fostering goodwill and friendship.
