Union Minister Rijiju Slams Congress: A Bold Charge of Betraying the Constitution’s Integrity for Self-Interest
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has openly criticized the Congress, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks in the Lok Sabha. Rijiju accused the Congress of manipulating constitutional provisions for the benefit of the “Congress family,” particularly during its six-decade rule. He stressed that these amendments were made to safeguard the interests of those at the top of the party.
Rijiju reiterated PM Modi’s position by saying, “PM Modi has very clearly explained how provisions of the Constitution were diluted and changed to suit the interests of the Congress family. These are not his opinions, but facts.” His comments followed PM Modi’s sharp critique during a Lok Sabha discussion on the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution. Modi accused the Congress of consistently disrespecting the Constitution, asserting that the party’s history is rife with attempts to undermine its importance.
Additionally, PM Modi criticized Congress’ “Garibi Hatao” (eradicate poverty) slogan, labeling it a “jumla” (rhetoric), while emphasizing his government’s commitment to alleviating the struggles of the poor. In response, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi dismissed Modi’s speech as “absolutely boring” and lacking in innovation or substance. She challenged him to debate the Adani issue to demonstrate true zero tolerance towards corruption.
The commemoration of the Constitution’s 75th anniversary has sparked heated exchanges between the two major political parties and continues to provoke strong reactions from both sides. This debate highlights the enduring political tensions and differing perspectives on the country’s constitutional history and its current governance.
