Passion Ignites: Shillong Residents Rally Against Heartless Atrocities on Minorities in Bangladesh
Hundreds of protesters, representing the All Meghalaya Citizen Conscious Forum (AMCCF), marched through Shillong on Friday to protest against the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh. The peaceful rally began at Mawbah Point and concluded at Rhino Point, with participants voicing solidarity through slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” They aimed to highlight the plight of minority communities in Bangladesh and express disapproval of the actions of the Bangladeshi government.
Raju Paul, the convenor of the AMCCF, announced the group’s intention to submit a memorandum to Bangladesh’s interim leader and Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus, via the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills. This memorandum calls for immediate action to safeguard minority groups in Bangladesh. Paul condemned the violence against Hindus and other minorities, labeling such actions as “inhumane” and unacceptable, stressing the need for an urgent international response to the situation.
The turmoil in Bangladesh began with significant student protests against a contentious quota system, leading to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier this year. However, despite her removal, violence against minority groups has continued, further straining relations between India and Bangladesh. The AMCCF stressed the need for global attention and robust action to ensure the protection and dignity of all minority communities in Bangladesh.
This rally served as a vocal demonstration of support for persecuted populations in Bangladesh, and a plea for justice and immediate intervention. The AMCCF’s actions mark a significant step in shedding light on human rights issues affecting the region and emphasize the interconnected concerns between neighboring countries.
