Shocking Shake-Up: CEM of Chakma Autonomous District Council Ousted in Unprecedented Move!
In a significant political development in Mizoram’s Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), Chief Executive Member (CEM) Rasik Mohan Chakma, who is also a sitting Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA, was ousted from his post through a no-confidence vote on Wednesday. The motion was initiated by Doymoy Daveng Chakma, a member of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), during the council’s winter session.
Of the 18 council members present during the vote, nine supported the motion to remove Rasik Mohan Chakma, while eight voted against it. Two members were absent, ultimately leading to his removal by a majority decision as announced by Council Chairman Mohan Chakma. This action stemmed from allegations of Rasik Mohan Chakma’s self-centered leadership approach and accusations of financial mismanagement within the council.
The 60-year-old Rasik Mohan Chakma, a seasoned politician, had been serving as the CEM following his sixth electoral victory in May last year. He also secured his position as an MLA from the MNF in the state assembly elections held in November, representing the Chakma-dominated Tuichawng constituency.
This event marks a critical shift in the political dynamics of the CADC, reflecting internal council issues and broader regional political tensions. Rasik Mohan Chakma’s removal underscores challenges in leadership perceptions and administrative governance within the council.
