Urgent: Enhanced Security in Agartala Sparks Anticipation for NEC Plenary Session on December 21
Security has been tightened in and around Agartala, Tripura, as the city prepares to host the 72nd Plenary Session of the North East Council (NEC) on December 21. Agartala’s proximity to the Bangladesh border, which runs 856 km along Tripura, necessitates heightened vigilance.
Kiran Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for the West District, announced on December 11 that security measures have been significantly increased. “We’ve established fixed barricades near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post and heightened security efforts in border areas, including routine patrolling. In preparation for the NEC Plenary Session on December 20 and 21, additional forces have been deployed in Agartala’s sensitive regions,” he stated.
Kumar assured that all necessary precautions are in place to maintain law and order during this crucial event. This NEC session marks the first time Agartala will host this prestigious gathering, which will see the participation of significant dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Governors from the Northeast states.
Given the high-profile attendees and the significance of the event, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a secure environment. The increased security measures underscore the importance of the session and Agartala’s strategic location near an international border.
By hosting the NEC Plenary Session, Agartala is set to become a focal point for discussions that could impact the development and governance of the entire Northeast region. The meticulous preparation and heightened security underscore the city’s readiness to successfully conduct this important event on the national stage.
