Triumphant Conclusion: The 9th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival Celebrates Cinematic Excellence
The 9th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival recently concluded in Guwahati, Assam, after four days celebrating cinematic storytelling and vibrant exchanges in the arts community. Held from December 5 to 8, the festival showcased an array of narratives from emerging and established filmmakers, offering a dynamic platform for creativity and networking.
The festival’s closing ceremony highlighted exceptional achievements in filmmaking. Kenny Deori Basumatary’s film ‘Bibo Binanao’ (My Three Sisters) won the Best Feature Film award, while the Best Director accolade went to Binoranjan Oinam for ‘Langdai Ama’ (The Juncture). ‘Chanchisoa’ (Expectation) was named Best Short Film, and Samiran Deka’s ‘Teens of 1942’ received the Best Documentary award. Pranjal Saikia was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to Assamese cinema.
The final day included a masterclass by renowned editor Nitin Baid, known for his work on films like ‘Masaan’ and ‘Gully Boy’. Baid discussed the vital relationship between editor and director, sharing insights and techniques to improve storytelling through film editing.
The festival also offered a series of interactive workshops and masterclasses, covering topics from scriptwriting basics to advanced storytelling techniques. Participants, including aspiring filmmakers and cinephiles from the Northeast, benefited from the expertise of industry professionals, fostering an environment that cultivated the next generation of cinematic talent.
