Urgent: INDIA Bloc Parties Plead for PM Modi’s Essential Year-End Visit to Secure Peace!
New Delhi, Dec 6 (PTI): Leaders from the INDIA bloc, including 10 political parties from Manipur, have pressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally visit the violence-stricken state to help restore peace and normalcy. In a recent press conference, the Manipur Congress chief, K Meghachandra, expressed discontent over being denied permission for a sit-in at Jantar Mantar, highlighting the ongoing struggles in Manipur.
The coalition, which submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office, accused the central government of negligence for its indifferent approach over the past 18 months. Meghachandra emphasized that the state government is under the central government’s control, accusing the administration of inadequate response as evidenced by the number of people displaced and lives lost. The central authorities, particularly the Home Minister, were criticized for directly managing the state’s affairs.
In a written appeal, the INDIA bloc underlined the gravity of the situation, pointing out that nearly 100,000 people have been displaced, and hundreds have died. The letter invited PM Modi to visit Manipur before the year ends, or alternatively, to meet with representatives in New Delhi if a visit proves unmanageable.
Kshetrimayum Shanta, convenor of the 10-party alliance, condemned the Modi government for its failure to visit Manipur in two years, blaming the crisis on what he referred to as maladministration by the BJP-led government. The call to action from Manipur’s leaders emphasizes the need for unity among the state’s diverse communities.
Since May last year, more than 220 lives have been lost, and thousands have been rendered homeless due to ethnic violence between the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo groups. The opposition has continuously criticized the Prime Minister and the central government for their handling of the crisis, urging immediate intervention to restore harmony in Manipur.
