Miraculous Rescue: 12 Crew Members Saved in Unprecedented Indo-Pak Operation After Vessel Sinks
In a commendable joint operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) successfully rescued 12 crew members from a sinking merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea. According to a statement from the ICG, the vessel named ‘MSV Al Piranpir’ sank on Wednesday while traveling from Porbandar, Gujarat, to Bandar Abbas, Iran. The incident occurred outside Indian waters, within the search and rescue area designated for Pakistan.
The distress signal, received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, prompted immediate action from Indian Coast Guard authorities. ICGS Sarthak was dispatched at maximum speed to the location provided by the alert. Meanwhile, MRCC Pakistan was informed to assist and alert mariners nearby, facilitating swift cooperation between the two nations.
Despite challenging conditions, the crew members were found approximately 270 kilometers west of Dwarka, taking refuge in a small dinghy after abandoning their vessel due to rough seas and flooding. The operation underscored the importance of international maritime cooperation, with continuous communication maintained between the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) from both India and Pakistan.
Both sea agencies demonstrated efficiency and coordination, showcasing a seamless alliance that ensured the safety of lives at sea, in a remarkable example of cross-border collaboration.
