Assam Election Chief Inspires Confidence with Rigorous Panchayat Poll Preparations in Kamrup

Assam State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar recently held a pivotal review meeting in Kamrup district to evaluate the readiness for the imminent Panchayat Elections. The gathering took place at the Integrated District Commissioner’s office in Amingaon and brought together key figures, including District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from the districts of Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Darrang, Nalbari, and Morigaon.

The meeting’s agenda focused on critical election preparedness elements, such as the publication status of the draft Panchayat electoral rolls following delimitation, as well as the provision of ballot boxes, manpower, and security measures. Alok Kumar underlined the necessity for meticulous accuracy in the draft electoral rolls. He urged the District Commissioners to ensure these rolls are widely publicized for public verification at various Panchayat and District offices.

Furthermore, the State Election Commissioner stressed the importance of establishing a robust mechanism to manage claims and objections related to the draft electoral rolls, ensuring their final publication is completed within the designated timeframe. This emphasis on transparency and accountability is crucial for maintaining electoral integrity.

Alok Kumar also advised officials on the judicious selection of distribution centres, ballot box receiving centres, counting centres, and strong rooms. Such decisions should be made with a view to avoiding any disruption to ongoing high school and higher secondary examinations.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including IGP CR Devojyoti Mukherjee, DIGP CWR Indrani Baruah, and other District Commissioners. Discussions underscored a commitment to facilitating a seamless and effective election process, with particular focus on security and logistical arrangements.

This proactive approach to election preparedness aims to ensure that the upcoming Panchayat Elections are conducted smoothly and efficiently, reflecting the state’s dedication to a robust democratic process.
