Beloved Icon Sayed Nazim Ahmed Passes Away After Brave Battle with Cancer
Renowned stage and radio actor Ahmed, a veteran of Assam’s theater scene, began his illustrious career in 1976. He made his mark through plays directed by prominent figures such as the late Ali Hyder, Sewabrata Baruah, Mahendra Borthakur, and Bhabendra Nath Saikia. Besides captivating audiences on stage, Ahmed was a familiar voice in radio plays broadcast by All India Radio Dibrugarh. He also directed numerous stage productions and was especially celebrated for his portrayal of Vasudeva in Raas ceremonies.
In addition to acting, Ahmed was recognized as an accomplished reciter. His talents and dedication earned him a spot as an observer at the East Zone Theatre Festival in Cuttack in 1993, a role facilitated by the Assam Directorate of Cultural Affairs.
Today, the town bid farewell to this cultural icon as his mortal remains were carried in a heartfelt procession to the NL Govt HS School playground, allowing the public to pay their respects. A diverse congregation of mourners, transcending religious boundaries, assembled at the North Lakhimpur Town Kabarstan to honor him with floral tributes before his burial.
The outpouring of admiration for Ahmed reflects his significant impact on Assam’s cultural landscape. His contributions to theater and radio have left an indelible mark, and his loss is deeply felt across the community.
