Transformative Triumph: CM Sarma’s ₹1 Lakh Crore Infrastructure Vision Ignites Hope in Meeting with PM Modi
Guwahati, Dec. 4: On the final day of his visit to New Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared that infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 1 lakh crore have been discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers. “These projects are at various stages of implementation with the Central Government,” Sarma stated after a virtual cabinet meeting.
Highlighting major developments, Sarma announced an ambitious express highway project connecting Guwahati to Barapani and further to Silchar, with an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore. The highway aims to facilitate same-day travel between Guwahati and Silchar, promising a 1.5-hour journey to Barapani and an additional 3.5 hours to Panchgram.
The Chief Minister also outlined plans to boost the Bongaigaon Refinery’s capacity by 5 million metric tonnes and expand the Namrup Fertiliser Company, seeking Rs 10,000 crore for the latter. Additionally, Sarma discussed the Guwahati Ring Road project and the Narengi-Kurua bridge, anticipating the Prime Minister to lay their foundation stones before February’s Investment and Infrastructure Summit.
Other significant initiatives include a Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and a Numaligarh-Gohpur tunnel. Sarma also proposed a new bridge over the Brahmaputra linking Morigaon to Darrang.
Further, the plans envision constructing two satellite cities within Guwahati and establishing a railway line from Guwahati to Gelephu, Bhutan. These projects aim to foster regional connectivity and economic growth.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s assurance of support, expressing optimism for accomplishing major milestones before the summit on February 25. “This period leading up to February 25 is an exciting time for Assam,” Sarma concluded, underscoring the state’s aspiration for transformative infrastructural progress.
