Empowering Meghalaya: CM-Connect Programme Transforms Lives with Direct Solutions, Says Conrad Sangma
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, showcased the success of the CM-Connect programme during an outreach event on December 3 in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. Since its launch in February, CM-Connect has been instrumental in facilitating direct communication between the government and its citizens. The initiative employs a blend of online, offline, and IVS platforms, including popular social media tools like WhatsApp, enabling people to voice grievances, ask questions, and offer suggestions directly to the state government.
“The platform is an initiative for citizens to directly reach out to the government to air concerns, raise queries, and provide suggestions,” Sangma stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to a participatory approach that listens and responds effectively.
During the event, Sangma addressed specific requests from the local community. He announced a significant investment of INR 10 crore for a new artificial turf playground in Mawthungkper village, in response to local demands for recreational facilities and skill-based youth training. He further encouraged communities to cooperate with the government on land provision for development projects, aiming for mutual benefits in infrastructure growth.
Sangma also expressed his intention to advocate for interest subvention on bank loans for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Additionally, he revealed plans for the construction of the Maweit to Nongjri road, anticipating sanctions within three months. This infrastructure development is expected to elevate international trade opportunities in the region.
The event drew the attendance of local MLAs Gabriel Wahlang, Methodious Dkhar, and RG Momin, reflecting the collective commitment to addressing community issues and fostering regional growth.
