Experience Serenity: Book Your Uber Shikara Adventure on Dal Lake Today!
Uber has introduced its inaugural water transport service in Kashmir, allowing users to book shikara rides via its app, marking a first for the ride-hailing giant in India. Named ‘Uber Shikara,’ this service enables tourists in Srinagar to schedule boat rides on Dal Lake directly through Uber’s platform. This limited-period offering is designed to assist tourists in securing shikara rides ahead of the busy holiday season, ensuring they can appreciate the picturesque surroundings of Dal Lake stress-free.
Lauding the initiative, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha celebrated this integration of tradition and technology, viewing it as a means to elevate the region’s cultural heritage. Without deducting any fees, Uber commits to covering the full cost of these rides for shikara operators, thereby fostering new economic prospects for local tourism workers.
Prabhjeet Singh, Uber’s President for India and South Asia, expressed that Uber Shikara aims to combine modern technology with traditional experiences, providing tourists with a seamless journey. The rides can accommodate up to four passengers and are bookable from 12 hours to 15 days in advance, with availability at government-approved rates.
This initiative not only showcases Uber’s adaptability in offering innovative transport solutions but also promises a boost to grassroots tourism sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
