The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recently launched a cutting-edge laundry care center in Guwahati to improve passenger comfort by ensuring consistently clean and high-quality linen. This state-of-the-art facility boasts an impressive capacity to process 32,000 bedrolls daily. Designed to maintain the highest hygiene standards, it provides passengers with fresh bedrolls, blankets, and pillow covers, enhancing their travel experience.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, highlighted the efficiency of the new tunnel-based system, which optimizes resource utilization—water, power, steam, and chemicals—while seamlessly managing large volumes of linen. Sharma emphasized that the automated system ensures a smooth transition between various cleaning stages, guaranteeing both high efficiency and quality.
In parallel developments, the North Western Railway (NWR) has also implemented a modern linen washing system, utilizing an automatic washing plant in Jaipur. This innovation ensures passengers receive hygienic and superior-quality linen. Chief Public Relations Officer of NWR, Captain Shashi Kiran, remarked on their commitment to quality standards by thoroughly cleaning and calendaring the linen before distribution. He also mentioned plans to expand the facility to meet rising demands from other passenger trains.
The Indian Railways, overall, has prioritized passenger comfort by delivering clean, hygienic linen, specifically in air-conditioned (AC) sleeper classes. Officials noted that all linen used during train journeys is meticulously cleaned in advanced mechanized laundries, employing the latest technology to enrich passenger travel experiences.
These initiatives reflect Indian Railways’ dedication to enhancing travel comfort and hygiene for passengers, setting new standards for railway services in the Northeast and beyond. Through these modernized facilities, both NFR and NWR are contributing significantly to elevating the quality of services offered to travelers.
